What are the Dos and Don’ts to be followed in laboratory?

Laboratory is a place where all the experiments are carried out. It might be at schools, medical colleges, hospitals, health centers and many other places. You can find various lab glassware and tools at this place. These tools and equipments are used by the medical experts and scientists who carry out their work in a laboratory.

This is because there are some hazards present and also it depends on the kind of laboratory you are working in. some of the risk carrying laboratories might have substances like explosives, flammables, poisons, radioactive materials, lasers. There are certain rules that are mandatory to follow before and after entering the laboratory so as to minimize the risk of getting in contact to any kind of accidental activity. However staff or the management is always engaged in this work in order to reduce the probability of any accidents.

Do’s-

Protection- This is put into activity at the time of entering the laboratory. Whenever you are entering the lab it is recommended to follow certain safety measures like

  • Always wear safety glasses when you are working in the lab

  • Always cover yourself by wearing lab coats and shoes that cover your feet also

  • Use special gloves that are also called as Nitrile gloves when you are handling organic chemicals.

  • Use facemask when you are making use of certain acidic material

Use fume hood– whenever you are performing certain test, make sure that you use organic fume hood so that incase fire occurs then it is partially contained. Also keep in mind that face is kept above the wind of fume hood.

Don’ts-

Chemicals– don’t discard the organic chemicals in the drain. Rather it is recommended to dispose them off in the chlorinated or non chlorinated organic ravage bottle. But before pouring it, make sure that the PH of the chemical is neutral.

Liquid- it is never allowed to drink or eat in the lab because lab is always filled with the toxic substances that can be harmful to you in all ways. So neither eat nor make the use of water flask to drink water.
